Coding under German small commercial vessel codes

Authorised surveyors of the German Maritime Agencies “Berufsgenossenschaft Verkehr” (BG Verkehr) and “Wasserstraßen und Schifffahrtsamt Jade-Weser-Nordsee“ (WSA)
In cooperation with the German maritime agencies and adhering to their guidelines we are authorised to undertake surveys within the scope of coding pleasure craft under German flag.

The German maritime agencies issue two different certificates:

One coding certificate “Bootszeugnis“ is valued for bare boat charter only, issued by the “WSA”.

The other coding certificate “Sicherheitszeugnis“ is required for pleasure craft and yachts of 8 – 24m length and is valued for both, bare boat charter and charter with crew, issued by the “BG Verkehr”. The “Sicherheitszeugnis” is above the “Bootszeugnis” and therefore includes the boats chartered out without a crew.

In either case we are entitled to carry out the surveys according to the German guidelines of coding for commercial use.

Both certificates are valid for two years and need periodical renewals thereafter. A prior inspection by an authorised surveyor of “BG Verkehr” or of “WSA“ is mandatory to prove that the vessel still complies with the safety requirements.

We are available to our clients for advice and assistance before and during the process of coding under German flag.
